Hello fellow artists and creators! I have been working on my next commissioned piece! I am new to portrait painting, but love how this piece is coming along. This is for my newly married, beautiful son and daughter-in-law. It is an16x24 oil painting. I started with a grid on the original picture and on the canvas for proportionality. I sketched it in fairly detailed ( I don't think I'll do that in the future) then started to color match and put paint to canvas. Now for the background.. I just need to dig in and do it, right?? I have been very careful and am loving the new dynamic that it is bringing. I have been hesitant every step of the way and trying to convince myself to "trust myself". We all have been there, but I think that is the key... along with just doing it! I thing Nike was on to something when they came up with that slogan. If you are an artist like me that stares at a blank canvas for weeks contemplating a painting.. I believe we have something in common with Michaelangelo.. Although, after his long periods of contemplation.. he just went for it. I'm trying to follow that theory and you should too. Paint on a canvas is not the end of the world. There are no mistakes, just happy accidents as Bob Ross would say. This is what I'm trying to learn and practice: Be free with your creativity, just stary, pen on paper, paint on canvas, something is better than nothing and...MOST of all... WE ARE AMAZING AND CREATIVE BEINGS!! Even if you thing you are not. Each one of us creates every day, we can't help it. I love you all.. you are my heart. Be creative and be loving -Nicole
Here is the progression so far...
